Description
This modern reproduction of the Newtech Model 68 Music Card for SS-50/30-based machines may look different from the original, but it functions identically.
The original board allowed anyone with an SS-50/30 bus computer to produce music and sound effects. Users could generate melodies, rhythms, sound effects, Morse code, touch-tone synthesis, and more. It featured selectable output port address decoding, a latched 6-bit digital-to-analog converter, an audio amplifier, a speaker, volume control, and an RCA phono jack for easy connection to a home audio system.
Although the Newtech Model 68 Music Card Users Manual seems to have been lost to time, the card closely resembles the S-100 Model 6 version. Additionally, a Newtech newsletter provides a BASIC Language program for writing musical scores and a 6800 Assembly Language routine for playing them.
Changes in the Reproduction:
- Replaced the RCA jack with a mono 1/8″ headphone jack.
- Disabled the speaker with a jumper shunt instead of cutting the wire jumper.
- Included the optional Low Pass Filter add-on, which you can bypass with jumpers.
